The Panasonic Lumix S1R

August 18, 2019 By Scott Hartwick Leave a Comment

The full frame mirrorless camera war has a new entry. The Lumix “S” series. Panasonic Lumix has made the jump from micro 4/3 straight into full frame and in a big way. The S1R is a 47MP monster of a camera. With a full feature list for both stills and video this new camera is poised to get the attention of everyone. But is it for everyone?

For the people who already own a Lumix micro 4/3 camera or any micro 4/3 camera for that matter this new “S” series is not only a big jump in sensor size but in weight as well. for the people who use a full frame DSLR the transition to this mirrorless body will be easy. Does this mean that you shouldn’t switch if you shoot micro 4/3? Not at all especially if you are a studio photographer or a shooter that doesn’t need to carry your gear around a lot. If you are a travel or landscape photographer you understand the importance of light weight gear. This is not a light weight rig. It is roughly the size and weight of a full frame DSLR.

A while back we previewed this full frame mirrorless camera before its production release and discussed what we could expect from Panasonic. Read that article here for specs and features known just before release. And for a comparison read the article we wrote about the Nikon Z7 as well a video review on our Youtube Channel and see how they stack up against each other.

Still not sure about the advantages and disadvantages of switching to this new camera? Then please take a look at our video review where we discuss in more detail the pros and cons of the S1R since its release.

Please leave us a comment and tell us if you’re switching or if you already have, how you like or dislike your new Lumix camera.
