A while back I was fortunate enough to stumble upon Giveawayoftheday.com (as site where you can download interesting licensed software for free for one day) when they were offering Inpaint by, the program I am discussing today. It only costs $39.00 for non-business use and does the most amazing job of intelligently removing unwanted objects from your images. Their website is http://www.theinpaint.com/ .
There are excellent examples of what the program can do, including a couple videos of the process.
The program is a free to download so you can play with it a little before you consider buying it.
The only caviot is that you won’t be able to save your work.
With this months Photoshop Challenge: Photo Restoration, I was going to do it in Photoshop CS5 but realized it would be a little laborious when compared to the job that could be done with inpaint. So I settles into fix all the cracks and missing emulsion from the photo using the very specific “Polygon” tool to select very small regions of the photo. I selected the crack plus a small amount of the ajoining photo on either side of the crack and let the program do it’s thing. I moved from crack to crack, and inside of 10 minutes they were all gone. I the proceeded into Photoshop CS5 to clone in the missing corner and add a white border.
Below I have supplied the Before and after verions of the photo. I chose not to do any facial reconstructive surgery on a couple individuals that could clearly use it.
At one of our future mini-seminars, I will take the time to demonstrate inpaint live using some of the photos supplied by the members. Take the time to download the trial version and I am convinced you will be as hooked as I am on the product. It has become an essential part of my graphic toolkit.
