On December 8, 2012, Phoenix area photographers will get together to participate in a global charity event, Help Portrait, and provide those individuals and families in need with a professional portrait.
Help Portrait, a pending 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was founded by Jeremy Cowart. It began as a simple gathering of photographers desiring to give back to their community. The subjects were fed, provided hair and makeup, and photographs were taken. Photographs have the power to touch and heal wounds, and Cowart saw that healing in a simple day of giving back.
Four years later, Help Portrait is a global charity event, with staggering statistics provided on the website: 201,367 portraits given; 16,488 photographers; 23,984 volunteers; 1,720 locations and 60 countries.
Phoenix photographers will join those numbers and provide portraits to those in need. 40 volunteers will be at the 1st Congregational Church of Tempe United Church of Christ, located at 101 E. Six Street, Tempe. The event will start at 10 a.m. and continue until supplies run out. Those who are photographed will be provided with an free 8×10 print. Snacks and water will be available, and there will be entertainment for children.
If you know someone who would benefit from this event in the Phoenix Tempe Area, please pass the word. Donations are also being sought, in the form of paper, ink, and supplies for the guests.
