What is a Gravatar?
So many users ask us how to get rid of the grey head that pops up when they comment on our Photographers Adventure Club or any Blog, this will help you on this blog and many others too!
It is a Globally recognized Avatar! Your Gravatar is an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog. Avatars help identify your posts on blogs and web forums, so why not on any site?
Most popular blogs like WordPress have a built-in support for Gravatar. When a photographer leaves a comment, it pulls their Avatar from Gravatar. Then their picture is shown next to their comments. This allows everyone to have their identity shown! Millions of avatar images are being served over 8.6 billion times per day!
Why use Gravatar?
First and foremost we are Photographers! A grey box does not represent us very well when we are trying to show the world what we can do! You want to build brand “You” and if you are going to comment on Blogs, posts, or elsewhere it will help others know who you are! Eventually when someone sees your comments enough (now that you have a photo there) they will get curious and click through to your website! So comment often and use your personal photo! This will make you stand out in the crowd and be recognized! How do I get it going?
How to Make one?
Its 100% Free and super simple: goto this website: https://en.gravatar.com/ and upload your Avatar photo of yourself! Its that easy- then when you post here(WordPress) or anywhere that accepts a gravatar your photo will instantly popup in the comments instead of an grey silhouette head. Once you set it you never need to go back and change it unless you want to! So forget about it and live a life of being seen!

Nice tip! I’ve been using Gravatar for sometime. I also have different gravatar for different site.
I recommend to use the same one on G+ and add your author link. If Google really like your post, they will show the same icon on search result. Unfortunately, I am not popular enough to see my own face on Google.

A great WordPress blog just published an article on this topic. It explains Gravatar extremely well. http://wpsites.net/blogging/reasons-every-blogger-needs-a-gravatar
I learn something new everyday. Thanks for posting this.
Cool…I just created one! Let’s hope it works!
